This web provides a catalog of the drought events during 1980-2015 identified through the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) for the terrestrial areas of 27 Reference Regions (RR) defined in the 5th Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), as well as a Lagrangian analysis (using the FLEXPART Lagrangian model forced by ERA-Interim data) of the associated changes in atmospheric moisture transport during the most severe meteorological drought episode observed in each RR.

The specific points covered in this catalog for each RR are the analysis of:
a) moisture sources and sinks of the region,
b) the climatic annual cycle of the Lagrangian analysis components (moisture uptake over the source, moisture supply from the source to RR and from RR to its climatological sink) associated with the region,
c) drought episodes at different time scales (SPEI-1, -6, and -12) over the region during 1980-2015,
d) anomalies of the Lagrangian analysis components for the most severe meteorological drought episode over the region during the period analysed (identified via SPEI-1),
e) linear correlation between the components of the Lagrangian analysis and the SPEI-1 time series for the region.
