Monthly Upwelling Index (UI) Data | 2020–2100 | Western Iberian Peninsula

Developed by: B. Thomas, X. Costoya, M. deCastro, and M. Gómez-Gesteira

This dataset provides monthly Upwelling Index (UI) values along the Western Iberian Peninsula for the period 2020 to 2100. Wind data were derived from a CMIP6 multi-model ensemble and dynamically downscaled using the WRF model, achieving a spatial resolution of 10 km and a temporal resolution of 6 hours.

Two climate scenarios are included:

  • SSP2-4.5 – intermediate emissions
  • SSP5-8.5 – high emissions

Daily-averaged 10-meter wind speeds were used to calculate the daily UI at each grid point. Monthly values were obtained by averaging daily results for each month across all grid points between longitudes -10º and -9.5º, and within ±0.25º of the selected latitude.

Note: Higher-resolution data (both temporal and spatial) are available upon request.
