Cambios pasados, presentes y futuros en la circulación del océano: Datos y Modelos: Los datos paloclimáticos sugieren que los cambios en la circulación del océano han jugado un importante papel en los cambios climáticos del reciente pasado geológico. Cambios rápidos y de gran intensidad han ocurrido repetidamente tanto en la circulación oceánica como en el clima durante el él último periodo glaciar. Es importante estudiar si cambios similares podrían repetirse en un futuro. En nuestra investigación, tratamos de comprender los cambios pasados, presente y futuros en la circulación oceánica, nos interesa tanto su valor medio como su variabilidad natural. Uno de los temas más importantes de nuestro estudio es estudiar con modelos simples y de complejidad intermedia la sensibilidad y estabilidad de la circulación termohalina ante diferentes forzamientos.
Predicción mensual, estacional y decadal: Nuestra investigación se desarrolla en el estudio de medias y eventos extremos climáticos basándonos tanto en aproximaciones dinámicas como estadísticas. Las herramientas típicas para este estudio son la predicción por conjuntos, aproximaciones multimodelo, weather types o patrones sinópticos…
Patrones atmosféricos de teleconexión: Los patrones atmosféricos de teleconexión juegan un importante papel en la comprensión de la variabilidad climática en un amplio rango espacial y temporal. Nuestra investigación analiza el papel de dichos patrones atmosféricos sobre la variabilidad climática global y regional y su predictabilidad.
Algunos de los temas tratados son:
- Variabilidad decadal de los patrones atmosféricos a partir de datos de observación datos Proxy y simulaciones de modelos.
- El papel de los patrones de teleconexión en la predictabilidad climática a escala global y regional.
- Aspectos no lineales de los patrones de teleconexión incluyendo la asimetría de las teleconexiones tropicales u extratropicales y los regimenes de tiempo.
Meteorología Dinámica: estudio de la dinámica y predictabilidad de los sistemas temporales de las latitudes medias, tropicales y polares, Estudios de fenómenos meteorológicos.
